Here are a few reasons why you should be more energy efficient when choosing your exterior remodeling company.

Being energy efficient saves you money. According to ASE.org, the average U.S. household spends $5,500 annually on energy. If you purchase energy efficient appliances or make energy efficient home repairs, you’ll be able to save hundreds of dollars.

Energy efficiency improves the economy. Not only does energy saving put more dollar bills in your pocket, it creates jobs and helps businesses and governments spend less. Together, businesses, cities, states, and the government are saving $500 billion in avoiding energy costs. With more energy efficient projects on the rise, more jobs are being created as well. In 2010 alone, energy efficiency accounted for more than 830,000 jobs nationwide.

Saving energy is good for the environment. By utilizing less energy, we save natural resources and cut down on pollution. If we didn’t have energy efficiency, we’d have to produce or import more energy sources like oil, natural gas, and coal. The U.S. uses 56% less energy today than it did when energy-efficient technologies and policies didn’t exist.

Energy efficiency improves national security. By decreasing our overall demand for energy, the need to transport and import vital resources has lowered. Using fewer resources means we don’t have to rely on other foreign nations for theirs.

Conserving energy enhances the quality of life. Your home life becomes more enjoyable when you realize you haven’t had to change a lightbulb in a while because you use energy efficient lightbulbs. You’re also improving the quality of life by providing more energy resources for future generations.

Termite Infestation? We can help!

Termites are active year round. However, their most active season is between March and November. The warmer the climate, the more active termites will be, so for Texas residents that’s a terrible thing. Termites are so damaging to homes because they feed on mostly wood. They’ll silently attack your home, cause structural damage, ruin your curb appeal and take money right out of your wallet.

How do you know your home is infested with termites? Many people can’t tell the difference between a termite and an ant. Termites can be differentiated by their straight antennae, uniform waist and wings of equal size, while ants have elbowed antennae, constricted waists and forewings that are longer than the hind wings. If winged termites are seen emerging from the base of a foundation wall, there’s a good chance the house is infested. Other signs of infestation are tubes of mud or dirt that extend over foundation walls, support piers, and more. Termites construct these tubes for shelter as they travel between their underground colonies and the structure. To determine if an infestation is active, break open the tubes and check for the presence of small, creamy-white worker termites.

Usually, there will be no visible indication that the home is infested. Infestations can go undetected for years, hidden behind walls, floor coverings, insulation, and other obstructions. Termite feeding and damage can even progress undetected in wood that is exposed because the outer surface is usually left intact.

How do you get rid of termites? Not many people have the special skills to rid their home of termites on their own. A knowledge of building construction is needed to identify the critical areas where termites are likely to enter. Many of these potential points of entry are hidden and difficult to access. A typical treatment may involve hundreds of gallons of a liquid pesticide injected into the ground alongside the foundation, beneath concrete slabs, and within foundation walls. Termite treatment is a job for professionals. Find a termite service company to service your home.
